Tambaram, Chromepet, Selaiyur, Sembakkam and Pallavaram are largely made up of independent houses, from older family homes to new two- and three-storey builds. WATREX works across this belt on the problems these houses tend to share: the terrace, the tank sitting on it, and the bathrooms below.
Independent houses: start at the top
In most Tambaram houses the roof does three jobs at once. It is the terrace, it carries the overhead water tank, and it is often where the family dries clothes and keeps plants. Each of these adds a way for water to get in.
The tank base. A concrete tank standing on the terrace can leak at its wall-floor joint or pipe entries straight into the slab below. The damp patch it causes looks exactly like a terrace leak, and people often pay to coat the whole terrace when the tank was the problem. We test the tank first.
Parapets and outlets. Small terraces have tight corners and few drain outlets. One blocked outlet and the water stands against the parapet joint until it finds a way in.
Pots and fixings. Heavy planters left in one spot keep the surface beneath permanently damp, and railings or cloth-line poles drilled into the terrace leave unsealed holes.
New houses in the area
With so much new building around Selaiyur, Sembakkam and towards Vandalur, many of the calls we get are from people mid-construction. The cheapest time to waterproof is before the finishes go on: the bare roof slab, the bathrooms before tiling, and the tank and sump before the first fill. See mother roof waterproofing.
What we fix most in Tambaram
- Terrace waterproofing for independent house roofs
- Water tank waterproofing with coatings safe for drinking water
- Mother roof waterproofing for new builds and re-roofing
- Bathroom waterproofing, often without breaking tiles

Common questions
The ceiling under our overhead tank is damp. Is it the tank or the terrace?
Often it is the tank. We test the tank's level and inspect its base before looking at the terrace, so you only pay to fix what is actually leaking.
Our terrace is small, with only one drain outlet. Can it be waterproofed properly?
Yes, but the outlet needs extra care. We seal it with a collar, check that the terrace falls towards it, and where it ponds, add a second outlet if the structure allows.
Do you cover Chromepet, Selaiyur and Pallavaram?
Yes. We work across the Tambaram belt.
