Waterproofing in Anna Nagar

Anna Nagar has two kinds of buildings side by side. There are the original independent houses from the 1970s and 80s, and the apartment blocks that have replaced many of them. WATREX works on both, across Anna Nagar, Shenoy Nagar, Kilpauk, Mogappair and Thirumangalam. The leaks they get are quite different.

The original houses

The older houses mostly have roof slabs topped with a thick weathering course and pressed clay tiles. After forty years, that layer soaks up every monsoon and holds the water against the slab. Owners repaint the tiles, the leak eases for a season, and then it returns. When the water is trapped below, the lasting fix is to lift the top layers, treat the slab itself and relay the finish. That is mother roof waterproofing.

The steel in these older slabs is often close to the surface. Damp that has run for years can rust it, and a ceiling that sounds hollow when tapped is the warning sign.

The redeveloped apartments

The newer blocks have different weak points. Terraces were finished with a single builder-grade coating, and bathrooms were sometimes tiled without a membrane. A few years in, top-floor ceilings stain after rain and bathroom leaks show up in the flat below.

Redeveloping your plot?

If you are rebuilding an old house into flats, ask us in at the slab stage. Treating the bare roof slab and the bathroom floors before finishing costs a fraction of a repair later.

What we fix most in Anna Nagar

Common questions

Should we remove the old weathering course or coat over it?

If the slab beneath is dry, a coating over the tiles can work. If water is trapped in the weathering course, it has to come off so the slab can be treated. We test with moisture readings before advising.

Our plot is being redeveloped by a builder. Can we bring you in?

Yes. Either the landowner or the builder can engage us. We work at the slab stage and again before bathrooms are tiled, and the written warranty names whoever signs the contract.

Do you cover Kilpauk and Mogappair?

Yes. We group visits in this part of the city, so message us a few days ahead.
